Wildlife & Outdoor Education Programs

On a Wildlife & Outdoor Education field trip, your group will be greeted at the base of the Mountain before taking the scenic Skyride to start your program at the Peak of Vancouver. Your day will be fully guided by our experienced education team.

WILDLIFE & OUTDOOR EDUCATION SESSIONS

45 Minute Session
Explore the wonders of nature through hands-on learning. These fun sessions are tailored for students by learning level, and align with the British Columbia curriculum. You can select a Wildlife & Outdoor Education curriculum session for one of your three guided sessions. See below for more information on sessions available for different age groups. 

Primary (Kindergarten – Grade 3)

Thrive and Survive
Discover what wildlife need to survive and thrive. Students will explore the differences between living from non-living things, identify their needs, and learn about local plants and animals in the Grouse Mountain sub-alpine ecosystem.

Mountain Adaptations (Grade 2-7)
Explore how wildlife adapt to their environments. Through hands-on activities, students will learn about some of Grouse Mountain’s most fascinating animals and how they adapt to escape predators, find food, and survive the changing seasons.

Bears of North America
Students will learn the similarities and differences between the three species of North American bears through interactive activities. Visit the grizzly bear habitat as your adventure activity to complete your day!

Intermediate (Grade 4-7)

Mountain Adaptations
Explore how wildlife adapt to their environments. Through hands-on activities, students will learn about some of Grouse Mountain’s most fascinating animals and how they adapt to escape predators, find food, and survive the changing seasons.

Who Eats Who
Discover how organisms interact and depend on each other. Students will explore food webs, producers and consumers, and ecosystem levels. With hands-on activities, students will discover how local plants and animals are connected, explore what sustains a healthy sub-alpine ecosystem, and learn how human actions cause positive or negative impacts.

Owls of North America
Learn about one of the most endangered species of BC, the Northern Spotted Owl, while discussing the impacts and consequences of extinction. Students will learn about current rehabilitation efforts and our own personal responsibilities in maintaining species diversity will be emphasized. This program pairs with a visit with one of the resident owls at Grouse Mountain’s Refuge for Endangered Wildlife.

BC Resources
Learn about the province of British Columbia’s major natural resources. Guided by our education team, students will participate in an interactive mapping activity, and discuss sustainability, renewable and non-renewable resources, and carbon footprints.

Secondary (Grade 8-12) & Post-Secondary

Tourism Sneak Peek
Vancouver’s tourism industry is growing rapidly, opening countless opportunities for ambassadors of our beautiful city. On this program, students will get a unique, behind-the-scenes glimpse through a day at Grouse Mountain.

First Nations Presentation

45 Minute Presentation
Led by a Squamish First Nation Elder, students will interactively discover traditional First Nations customs, legends, dances and rich history in the hiwus Feasthouse, an authentic Pacific Northwest Coastal Longhouse. The Elder will present a song and a story for your group. This presentation can be added into a booked field trip.

45 Minute Activity
Explore the mountain with recreation activities — from Guided Eco-walks in the summer, to snowshoeing in the winter, and more. You can select adventure activities for one, two, or all three of your field trip sessions.

Complimentary tickets for supervising adults: Grade K-3 1:5; 4-12 1:10. Ask for details. Group must have 15 minimum paying and be 75% students. Grouse Mountain Membership does not receive discounted rate. Weekend Guided Field Trips require a minimum of 50 students.
