Grouse Mountain ready to shine in the 2010 Olympic Torch Relay

January 29, 2010, Grouse Mountain, North Vancouver, B.C. – In just 12 days from today, the eyes of the world will turn to Grouse Mountain as the Olympic Flame arrives at the highest point in Metro Vancouver as part of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay, presented by Coca-Cola and RBC and supported by the Government of Canada.
“Grouse Mountain is proud to continue its legacy of hosting world class events in Vancouver,” says Grouse Mountain President Stuart McLaughlin. “We have supported Vancouver’s Olympic pursuit since the first days and we are honoured that the Torch will burn on top of Vancouver’s favourite mountain. This will launch our Olympic celebrations running 24 hours a day throughout the Games, and provides a once in a lifetime opportunity for our staff and guests to share in and reflect on the Olympic ideals that the flame represents: peace, brotherhood and friendship.”
The torch relay will arrive at approximately 4:45 pm as part of a convoy of vehicles, which will include torchbearer shuttles, media vehicles, relay support vehicles and police cruisers. Temporary rolling road closures will ensure the safety of the torchbearers and spectators lining the relay route.
The Olympic Flame will begin its ascent to the Peak of Vancouver uniquely positioned aboard the famed Skyride, commencing one of four legs taking place at the resort.
“Our goal with these celebrations has always been to bring the magic and excitement of the Olympic Spirit home to millions of Canadians no matter where they live and truly make these Canada’s Games,” said John Furlong, Chief Executive Officer of the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC).
On February 12, 2010, the Olympic Flame will make its way to downtown Vancouver to light the Olympic Cauldron in a magical and awe-inspiring moment before a television audience of three billion people worldwide, signalling the kick off to the start of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

Schedule:
4:00PM – Grouse Mountain Skyride (tram) access will be closed to the public.
4:45PM – Olympic Flame arrives at Grouse Mountain
5:20PM – Olympic torch departs Grouse Mountain and the Skyride re- opens to the public
