(North Vancouver) The Grouse Grind was ‘flooded’ this morning as close to 900 people clad in blue and sporting painted faces and hair hiked the iconic trail during Whistler Water One Climb in an action-packed day of fundraising and achievement.

Now in its second year, Whistler Water One Climb challenged participants to dress in blue and “flood” the Grouse Grind all in an effort to provide clean drinking water to a very deserving community in Kenya. With donations still coming in, One Climbers have delivered almost $60,000 in total donations this year, 100 percent of which will be directed to Free The Children's water project in the Kenyan community of Kipsongol.

Notably, the top individual fundraisers, two young students named Maya and Solaya, raised $2,408 for the cause, bringing the cumulative total of One Climb donations to $177,000 over the past two years. To put it in perspective, $25 provides a lifetime of clean water to one person, which means more than 7,000 people have been helped by Whistler Water One Climb to date.

Kicking off this morning’s festivities, local singer Victoria Duffield along with Free The Children’s Spencer West and Hannah Alper shared inspirational and heart-warming accounts of their experiences, followed by a special performance by the Shift Dance Academy and a rousing rendition of the We Day Dance.

Following their ascent of the Grind, participants were treated to a spirited performance by the ‘More Than Friends’ singer and her backup dancers, along with a carnival-style mountaintop celebration on the Alpine Plaza.

“We are absolutely thrilled by the incredible outpouring of support for the Whistler Water One Climb,” said Whistler Water president Stuart McLaughlin. "Once again, One Climb participants have rallied to give an entire community in need a lifetime of clean water, while sparing women and young girls the grueling daily task of collecting this valuable resource and freeing up their time to earn an education. A sincere thank you to all of our business and community leaders, teams, groups and individuals who raised such significant funds while providing an amazing, inspirational atmosphere today.”
