We are excited to share the ongoing progress of Grouse Mountain’s state-of-the-art gondola!

Slated to open during the 2024/25 winter season, the new gondola marks the start of a new chapter for us leading up to the Resort’s centennial in 2026.
With the Mountaintop transforming into a winter wonderland, and the building of the foundation for the Plateau Station complete, our focus turned to the Base Station. Located to the West of the Lower Terminal of the Super Skyride, guests have been able to watch the Base Station transform over the last few months. Once all of the concrete work has been completed, the terminal for the station will be put in place in late spring.

As we continue working on the structure for the base station, preparatory works also continue for the assembly of the 14 towers and line work that will eventually link the two stations together over a 2,600 foot vertical rise. The foundations for seven of the towers have already been completed, and we will start on the next seven in the spring. This will involve using helicopters to transport both the concrete, and nine of the towers into place.

The new lift system includes a total of 14 towers and 27 eight-person gondola cabins. With a one-way journey time of 5.5mins, our capacity is expected to be 1,000 people per hour, greatly improving the flow of people visiting the Mountain, reducing wait times and lineups.

As we approach the 100th anniversary of the Resort’s inaugural ski season in 2026, we are thrilled with the strides made in the ongoing evolution of this transformative project. Since the world’s first double chairlift was built at the Resort in 1949, Grouse Mountain has had a rich history of investing in modern recreational technology. The installation of the new gondola is the latest development to further enhance our four-season operations to welcome both the local and global community. The gondola project will support continued investment in the world-class experience Grouse Mountain offers and ensure Vancouver’s number one natural attraction is accessible for generations to come.
